Over the past few months the team at Race the Tide have been working to make 2019’s race bigger, better, bolder, but most importantly, safer than ever before. We’ve done this in three ways:
Partnership with Haverigg Inshore Rescue Team
We are pleased to announce our partnership with Haverigg Inshore Rescue Team (HIRT). HIRT is an independent charity which provides lifesaving services to those in need around the Duddon coastline. HIRT’s volunteers will be manning the water obstacles and will be able to assist any competitor in difficulty.
Please see here for RNLI’s video on how to deal with cold water shock.
Earlier start time
We’ve also brought the start time forward to 15:30 to ensure that all competitors can get round in good light. Also you’ll be able to get to the after party (hog roast and ceilidh) earlier: win-win!
Route upgrade
This year we’re hosting just one 10km course rather than offering two distance (as in previous years). This decision was made to improve marshal coverage and ease of participant navigation. It also means that all competitors have the opportunity to complete each obstacle. We’ve upgraded the route, adding more beach running as well as some new surprise obstacles. Please speak to our race team if you have any concerns.
N.B. Please note that racers will still be required to complete ‘Race the Tide 2019 Liability Disclaimer’ and confirm that they are capable of swimming across open water.
