WHAT TO WEAR FOR THE RACE

Running kit is down to personal choice, but be prepared to get wet and muddy. Fancy dress is strongly encouraged (there will be fancy-dress-related prizes!), although not required. If you choose to wear a costume, make sure it’s appropriate and safe for scrambling over obstacles or jumping into water or other types of challenges.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring your outfit is appropriate for the route.

RACE ROUTE AND OBSTACLES

Race the Tide is a combination of human-made and natural obstacles throughout the course. Every year the course is different as the ebb and flow of the tide requires us to adjust the route. It has a very varied landscape and running conditions. The obstacles include a variety of water crossings, jumps, rough terrain, walls and slides paired with some steep hills.

Obstacles are designed to be achieved by runners of differing ability, even if that may require help from others. However, a marshal will be available to redirect a runner at main obstacles, if needed. If you want to find more details, check the route here.

LEVEL OF RUNNERS

Race the Tide welcomes runners of all levels. While running the course is the ultimate goal, some competitors have chosen to walk the whole route in the past - the scenery really is that great! Marshals will also walk the route to make sure everyone is back in after the race.

Running within the bounds of your limits is important and therefore there will be opportunities to drop out of the race,
however we ask that you inform a marshal when you decide to do this, so we don’t spend hours looking for you.

AGE OF RUNNERS

Runners must be over the age of 16. Additionally, runners under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a guardian during the race. The guardian runner must be over the age of 18.

SWIMMING

Some of our obstacles require swimming. At registration, you will have to confirm that you can swim at least 50m. If you cannot swim please let us know and we will indicate to you an alternative (slightly longer) route that avoids the water.

SPECTATORS

Spectators add to the atmosphere and help our participants around the course. They can come for the weekend or just the day. We advise all spectators to wear wet-weather gear and sturdy shoes for walking on tracks.

BAG DROP

For all runners we will have a bag drop at the start of the race. Those items will be available to collect at the finish line with your race number.

Dogs

We love dogs, bring them! They can even run the race, however be sure to keep them on a lead. If they run the race, they’ll get a participation medal too! If some obstacles are not suitable for your furry friend there will be an alternative to go around them.

NOTE: There will be some prizes given specifically to dogs.

FINISH LINE

At the finish line, there will be a complimentary small snack and water. We also have food vendors, live music, and a bar for you to enjoy while you welcome in other participants.

MARSHALS & VOLUNTEERS

Race the Tide is brought to you by a community of volunteers! For many attendees, this is a key aspect of the event, and we are always looking for more marshals and volunteers to help on race day.

We welcome volunteers of all abilities and strive to make roles as accessible as possible. If you have any accessibility requirements, just let us know—there are a variety of roles available to suit different needs.

You can sign up here to get involved. We would love your support, and as a thank-you, we’ll give you a free ticket to our Ceilidh and dinner party on Saturday evening.

THIS summer, join us to RACE the TIDE IN YOUR OWN UNIQUE WAY!
